  1. No cop hating? Someone needs to relay those exact words to the Charlotte Observer.com. It seems the only thing that matters to people posting on that site is whether or not "CMPD does psych evaluations". That has nothing to do with this incident and no, he wasn't with any other law enforcement. What EVERYONE needs to be doing is praying for both families. All the loved ones who will be left behind by Mr. Hester and all the loved ones who will be by Ms. Cobb's side while she pieces her life back together. God be with everyone involved.

  3. what does being a former police officer even have to do with the situation. If the guy worked at publix they wouldn't even mention it.
Basically it boils down to domestic violence and how it needs to stop IMMEDIATELY!

I know this about Jeremy he grew up in terrible conditions but never let that stop him from moving forward. He graduated from high school and went right into the Marines. He has traveled the world. He was deployed to the Middle East and became an bomb specialist. After 3 tours of duty he came home to be a police officer in Charlotte. He was hired in 2007 and resigned 2010. He then went to work for a company that serves the military in Huntesville,Al. and then to Fredericksburg,Va. He had lunch with his dad on Friday and they went to look at Harley's....The next thing his dad knew was police officers were at his door...on Saturday morning. His dad has never left the hospital until today. My prayer is I hope during his travels that he knew God.Please pray for his ex wife and children. This is truly a sad situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Erin as well as the Hester family. We went to High School with both Jeremy and Erin and remember laughing all the time while being around them. The world has truly lost a great friend and soldier. We pray for a speedy recovery and know that all things are possible through God and prayer. God bless.

[Excerpts] ...We want to thank everyone for all the prayers, well wishes, offers to help, etc. It has been a difficult number of days but she is tough, tough, tough. (That's no surprise to any of us!) She is being very strong and very determined.
Erin had surgery yesterday to repair her jaw. The surgeon indicated that everything went well. The jaw line should be as beautiful as always.
    She has started physical therapy...

    WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2011 9:38 PM, EDT
[Excerpts] The day following Erin's reconstructive jaw surgery
It has been a tough day. The pulmonary ventilation tube is becoming more uncomfortable to Erin. It can't be removed until the left lung is totally inflated. The procedure to remove mucus from her lung is rigorous... This procedure has been repeated every four hours... The jaw construction surgical site is very swollen as we were told it would be... Erin has endured all of this with the intrepid spirit that defines her character. We continue to take time each day to thank God for the continued blessings of improvement and today to read the beautiful and comforting comments from all of her dear friends. We love you and appreciate all of the kind words and sustaining prayers.

    THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2011 11:56 PM, EDT
[Excerpts] Erin is still being jostled around every four hours clearing her lungs. This is critical... She's being really tough... Regardless of the pain she's working through it with incredible fortitude... right now I just want her to know I will be here to help (as will so many others) until she is on her own again.

    [Excerpts] Airway removal day (Yeah)
This morning's meeting with the doctors was exciting. They thought Erin had improved enough so that the respirator tube causing her so much discomfort could finally be removed... Erin must begin the tough task of learning to inhale, exhale, and cough without respirator assistance... We are so very proud of her and the fortitude she has shown. We humbly thank all dear friends of this family for their continued prayer and friendship. With continued graces and the fine work of the staff here, Erin will be reading your incredibly kind remarks herself very soon. So, please keep those beautiful notes coming. Your words mean so much. Blessings.... Mom.

    SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2011 12:31 AM, EDT
Lots of tests today. Improvement of the left sub-clavical (I think) artery. Two drains removed just two to go! Her left lung is improving. She's breathing better... Lots of good news. Physical therapy to help her make those "nixon" peace signs... She's exhausted but I'd say it was a good day. She's now rsting with Myrtle Beach Bear, Bear Cobb and Phil's duckie... Tomorrow is another busy day of physical therapy, respiratory therapy and whatever else therapy we can come up with...

    SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2011 10:05 PM, CDT
A new day with new challenges. Huge milestone. Transition to the wheelchair was exhausting and painful... She sat up for 45 minutes... She knows it is painful both physically and emotionally but she perseveres in spite of it. She will drive thru this. Don't get in her way once she sets her mind to it.
We have had a few difficult questions and even more difficult answers as we probe into the why's of the past and the concerns about the future. She will need the strength of her friends to help her going forward physically and more importantly, emotionally...

    SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2011 10:25 PM, CDT
Another great day. Several major positive events. Erin's lung drain was removed after an early morning xray... Her pulmonary exercises are getting more aggressive. The shaking still is on a 4 hour schedule... She continues to practice her hand exercises... She is surrounded by some of her closest friends... We are so appreciative of everyone's help...

    MONDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2011 11:04 PM, EDT
Each day that I spend with Erin I am so amazed at her strength and her maturity. She has recognized that she has some challenges ahead of her and is more than willing to work through the hardest of those. So far she has accepted her paralysis as a challenge to prove the doctors wrong. Each day she tolerates more time in the wheelchair. Today she spent two hours in the "chair"; it will take four for her to graduate from the Intensive Care Unit to the Rehabilitation Center... I have become fascinated by her spirit and her calmness in spite of the road ahead of her. She has assured me that she is the same old Erin that we had not seen for the last several years. She is confident and determined. I am so glad to have her back.

Bethany: I'm not sure that I have ever met you but you sure are making quite a positive impression on lots of people. Your cards are wonderful. The brownies ...AWESOME. Most of all your hugs for Lucy. Lucy has spent the last 10 days sprucing up the house and the yard to make it a happy place. Returning to the house is getting easier since she has transformed it inside and out!... I cannot express to you Bethany how your hugs for Lucy have helped her during those few moments when she is not busy transforming something. You are a wonderful, wonderful person.

Real Food at Last... Erin passed the swallow test... She spent 2 hours in the chair with a greater level of tolerance today than yesterday. She now has a bar above the bed that allows her to adjust her upper body to her liking. It gives Erin a chance to strenghten her biceps too (Yeah)... She continues her respiratory therapy... Again tonight I have been overwhelmed by Erin's fortitude, grace and her capacity to be positively involved with the many people that have cared for her... After each treatment: feeding, bathing, cleaning or whatever ordeal she is put through she thanks her caretakers for their efforts and the work that they do to help her get better. It is so touching to witness their response to her. It fills my heart with the most incredible joy to see how she is affecting so many people in so many ways... As I lay down to rest tonight I am assured that she has found the faith she has been seeking. I hope we can all learn from her the importance of being thankful for life no matter what lies ahead...

    THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2011 12:05 AM, EDT
...the feeding tube was removed today... We have learned so much about the human body while we have watched her heal. It is a remarkable, fascinating and humbling experience to watch how much the body is capable of overcoming.
The emotional side is going to take longer to heal. Erin has been able to speak of the event with clarity. She recognizes that she is lucky and but for the grace of God she is here today... I want to thank everyone who has continued to support us in so many ways. The food, the cards, the visits, the hugs and most of all the prayers. I feel that I am asking for more than we deserve when so many others are hurting. I can't help being selfish when it comes to Erin.... I'm her Mom and darn proud of it.

    THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2011 11:59 PM, EDT
Today was a long and tiring day for Erin. As she continues to heal and her medicines are modified there are certain pains that are not easily remedied by medication. Breathing room temperature air is very painful and she tries to warm the air by placing a wash cloth over her mouth. Her jaw is healing and but her mouth is very raw. Today's major event was a visit to the hospital dentist. She had one broken tooth removed and several of her teeth had to be bonded to reduce the pain of her exposed dentin and roots. Repair of the injuries to her mouth will take several months. Nothing major can be started before the jaw heals completely... Soon she will be transitioned to the rehabilitation center where the focus will be on re-learning life skills. The intense focused process to teach her how to live within her current capabilities will be good for her... I am getting reassurance from the professionals that this is the best thing for her. Nevertheless, I want to shelter her from any more hurting. When this transition occurs, the ability to visit her will be greatly diminished. I recognize that this will be the best for her and for all those who want to be with her, support her and do all we can to make her feel comfortable. It will be a necessary break for everyone as we all need to heal our hearts and allow Erin to heal her body....

    Rehab Yeah!
What a great day. Chelsea spent time tending and primping Erin before leaving the hospital for the rehabilitation center late this afternoon. She looked quiet nice with her hair cleaned and braided. It was wonderful to see Erin enjoying the TLC. Chelsea thanks for being such a doting friend.
Over at the rehabilitation center the first thing I noticed was how QUIET it is. No bells, no dinging, no on-going monitors. She's in a place where she can get the appropriate rest she needs...

    Day 1 at Rehab.
I am posting information based on events as reported by others... Erin started the activities of the day by learning to move from her bed into her wheelchair and rolling down the hall... When offered to go back to bed, Erin said that since the gym was nearby she ought to give it a try. I understand that she got on the mat and did some balancing sets before heading back to her room... It's hard to believe that it has been two weeks since this terrible tragedy... To all who have had us in your thoughts and prayers we thank you again. I feel they are working wonders for our girl...

    SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011 8:03 AM, EDT
Another Day closer... As she continues to heal and she gains dexterity in her left hand she is going to have time to communicate her story herself. I look forward to her perspective...

    SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011 7:10 PM, CDT
Today was a good day... we are so so so grateful that Erin is able to eat on her own. In a few weeks when her jaw is healed she will be able to chew more typical food...

    MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2011 9:00 PM, EDT
...My first inclination of what kind of day it was going to be was a prodding from Erin asking why I was late... She had already eaten breakfast, and was preparing for the physical therapist. 1 hour of physical therapy, learning how to transition into the wheelchair, then learning to maneuver herself to the gym, learn how to balance, lean, pull her legs onto the foot stands, lean over and touch the floor... She is having to relearn so much... In the midst of this we had to deal with one "matter of fact" therapist. Erin had to remind that therapist to be positive about her recovery... I learned much about strength and determination, and that it's okay to cry when she's not watching... Hug your loved ones and remember we are one day closer...

Seems as though everytime I get on this forum I have to reflect back on the events of the day. Sometimes the days run together and I struggle to remember everything we did today. First off the doctors decided that Erin could eat "mechanically" processed meats and cooked veges... The jaw still needs to be protected while it heals... Her biggest challenge is her low blood pressure... It's hard to imagine that a few short weeks ago this would be her way of life right now.. Again, she has castigated those who doubt her ability to walk in the future...

    WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2011 10:26 PM, EDT

...The Occupational Therapist was coaching and evaluating Erin's ability to dress for the day's activities... I watched and cheered her on while she used her upper body strength to pull on her shirt and sweats.
I learned how to wrap her legs in bandages to help with blood circulation... After putting on her shoes she rested until the physical therapy session...So when you all lay down to rest tonight please think about what you can do for the ones that you love and cherish...

    THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2011 9:40 PM, EDT
Another day under our belt. I was on time and ready to help her take her first shower since the incident. Well that was not to be. Erin made an executive decision to wait a couple more days until she can better balance... Erin was in Spinal Education class. THe Center offers a daily class on specific aspects of Spinal Injury education... The big excitement today was the last IV line has been removed. As of today she has no attached tubes... Later this evening a whole batch of friends showed up. It was wonderful to see Erin's expression as each person showed up. It was quiet nice to see her excitement of the videos and pictures of yesterday's event! Wow. You all are so fantastic to support her. She is so humbled by the lovely event and how much was contributed... Thanks to all who continue to keep Erin in your thoughts and prayers.

  20. BEAUTIFUL VIDEO INTERVIEW - BE SURE TO SEE IT BEFORE THE WEBSITE TAKES IT DOWN.

Woman shot twice by ex-husband recounts tale
    WSOC Charlotte
    November 18, 2011
    http://www.wsoctv.com/news/29803363/detail.html

CONCORD, N.C. -- Nearly two months after a local woman was shot twice by her husband before he turned the gun on himself, she opened up about the volatile relationship and her recovery.

Erin Cobb married a fellow Marine and former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, a man she said was mentally abusive and manipulative.

When she tried to break things off with him, the relationship turned physically violent and deadly. .

“He just got this look in his eye,” Cobb said, recalling the night her ex-husband, Jeremy Hester, tried to kill her when she told him she was leaving.

“I saw him pull a gun out of his pants and he shot me. Then he shot me again. Then I heard a third shot and I knew he had shot himself,” she said.

    Hester died two days later.

Cobb survived, but two months later she is still fighting to regain her life. She is paralyzed from her chest down and recovering from shots that pierced her neck and mouth.

“I had to have four titanium plates in my jaw and complete reconstruction,” she said.

It’s a challenging place for a former Marine and competitive bodybuilder.

She met Hester in the Marines when the two served in Iraq. She said he returned with PTSD, and that’s when things escalated.

“He refused to get help, get better, refused to acknowledge that he had any problems,” Cobb said.

But she never imagined the relationship would end like it did.

“He would call me 100 times a day, just would not leave me alone. (He would) show up places. Finally, so he would stop, I allowed him back in my life,” Cobb said.

Cobb said that was a mistake and she’s now sharing her story to warn women in abusive relationships to leave before it’s too late.

“I had so much pride. I said, ‘I’m not leaving my life. I’m not the one with the problem.’ And in the end, this is how I ended up,” she said.

Now she spends every day focused on rehabilitation, determined to walk again.

“I am eternally hopeful. I’m strong. I believe in my body. I shouldn’t have survived and I did, and there’s no reason I can’t overcome this as well, survive this as well,” Cobb said.

In keeping with Cobb’s passion for fitness, her friends at Cross Fit Vitality in Concord have planned a Cobb WoD, or workout of the day, event in her honor Saturday, Nov. 19, to raise money to help with her medical bills.
