[Excerpts] A third woman has come forward to report that she was sexually assaulted by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer already accused of two similar crimes. And Police Chief Rodney Monroe said Tuesday that the department should never have hired Marcus Jackson as a police officer in 2008, because he had a domestic violence restraining order against him in 2005. Monroe announced the most recent allegations at police headquarters, less than a week after revealing previous charges against Jackson, 25, who was fired last week... Jackson, who has been in Mecklenburg jail since last week, now faces additional charges: two counts of sexual battery, one count of felonious restraint and one count of interfering with an emergency communication. Monroe's announcement Tuesday came hours after prosecutors said they might have to throw out dozens of cases in which Jackson is the primary witness. Assistant District Attorney Bruce Lillie said more than 50 cases – mostly misdemeanors and traffic offenses – may have to be thrown out. Among them are charges of domestic violence, assaults on females, drunken driving and driving while license revoked. Those cases also include three felonies – armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and assault by strangulation... Police encourage anyone with information to contact Det. Mike Melendez at 704-353-0560 or Sgt. Darrell Price at 704-336-4188. [Full article here]
