[Excerpts] State police Lt. Richard Bolduc will be arraigned July 23 in Barnstable District Court on a charge that he didn't properly store his state police-issued gun. Bolduc's 12-year-old son got ahold of the unloaded weapon June 25, pointed it at a 5-year-old neighbor and pulled the trigger. No one was injured, but the boy is also facing charges in juvenile court. Police say that when they retrieved the gun there was a loaded clip in the same dresser drawer where the unlocked gun was stored. "I'm not trying to be vindictive, but he certainly needs to be punished," said Carli Guerrini, mother of the 5-year-old and four other girls who witnessed the incident. "I don't think that was very responsible. I think it's rotten (Bolduc) hasn't called or apologized." Bolduc's son allegedly went home to get the gun after having a beef with Guerrini's daughters and two other neighborhood boys over a bike... Regardless of the legal wrangling, Bolduc may have violated a state police policy that requires firearms to be locked away and unloaded when not in use... Bolduc has been on restricted duty since July 2. The lieutenant was reassigned to the Middleboro barracks, where he no longer has access to a state police vehicle and his gun has been taken away... Guerrini hopes prosecutors will follow through with the case. "I keep envisioning what could have happened and I get sick," she said.
